The Matthews Piano Endowed Scholarship

The Matthews Piano Endowed Scholarship

The Fund is designated for a piano student of Clifton Matthews at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts who, upon the recommendation of Mr. Matthews, is deserving of this award. The student will have completed at least two full years at UNCSA as a college undergraduate or in exceptional cases, as a high school student. Upon retirement, or at the time Mr. Matthews ceases to teach at UNCSA, the income from the Matthews Piano Scholarship will continue to be awarded annually to an outstanding piano student at UNCSA who meets the criteria stated above upon the advice of the piano faculty at the School of Music.

To honor members of her family whose lives have been significantly associated with the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Mrs. Bernice Matthews in 1993 made to the University of North Carolina School of the Arts Foundation a generous gift which is the source of the Matthews Piano Scholarship to be awarded annually to a piano student of outstanding talent, character and promise.
