Paul G. Tazewell Endowed Scholarship
Scholarship benefitting students in the School of Design & Production with preference given to undergraduate students of color.
Paul Tazewell graduated from UNCSA’s School of Design and Production with a major in Costume Design. The education he received at UNCSA influenced his work throughout his career. Mr. Tazewell has designed costumes for Broadway and regional theater, dance, opera, film and television. He has been nominated for six Tony Awards (at the time of writing) and is the recipient of a 2016 Tony Award for Best Costume Design of a Musical for his work on Hamilton. He received a 2016 Emmy Award for The Wiz Live, which aired on NBC. He has also been the recipient of two Lucille Lortel Awards, four Helen Hayes Awards, a Princess Grace Foundation Fellowship and The Princess Grace Statue Award. His work has taken him around the world designing for renowned companies such as the Metropolitan Opera, The Bolshoi Ballet, The English National Opera, Theatre du Chatelet and many more. With this gift, Mr. Tazewell hopes to inspire emerging artists of color to follow their dreams and become the next generation of creative innovators.
