Jill Lane Endowed Scholarship

Jill Lane Endowed Scholarship

A scholarship benefitting returning high school students from North Carolina.

Established in 2015 by the UNCSA High School Parent Support Organization in honor of Jill Lane. Jill Lane served as Dean and Head Master of the High School Academic Program of UNCSA for eight years and announced in 2014 her intention to return to a full-time teaching post at the school. Lane has taught math in UNCSA’s high school since 1994. In 2006 she assumed leadership for the academic program, which serves about 300 students and includes 25 full-time and part-time faculty and staff members. She was responsible for curriculum and academic course scheduling, budget and salary, and communications with both internal and external constituencies. She was the UNCSA liaison with the high school accrediting agency, and was executive director of the School Improvement Team. Lane is credited with initiating a parent support organization that has steadily grown in membership and raises funds armually to support the academic program. She has increased learning support opportunities, diversified course offerings, and expanded advanced placement (AP) courses to include art history, psychology, and U.S. government and politics. Under her leadership, the percentage of UNCSA high school students earning a three or better (on a five-point scale) on AP exams has risen to 91, compared to a national average of 64 percent. Lane also led the high school program through two successful reaccreditation cycles. Lane has a Bachelor of Science degree from Wake Forest University, a Master of Arts in Education from the College of William and Mary, and an Education Specialist degree from the University of Missouri at Columbia. She has previously taught at Salem College, High Point College, Salem Academy, and North Forsyth High School. In the summer of 2011, Lane was awarded a fellowship to attend the Peabody Professional Institute for Independent School Leadership at Vanderbilt University.
