Jean Mary DePasquale Shaprut Endowment
Scholarship benefitting a 3rd or 4th year Costume Design and Technology student studying in the School of Design and Production.
Established by Tonya L. Ricketts and Gerald Shaprut/Joshua Hatcher to honor Jean Mary DePasquale Shaprut, a 1996 graduate of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, and to promote opportunity to honor an eligible costume design/construction student. Jean Mary DePasquale Shaprut attended the University of North Carolina School of the Arts from 1992-1996. She was a costume design student with exemplary talents. She was also an accomplished illustrator and landscape/portrait painter. She received the premier costume design project for the all college musical production of Brigadoon in 1996. Not only did she design the amazing costumes for the production, but many of the marketing materials as well. She was a good friend, a compassionate soul and the type of person who was grateful for every moment. She was diagnosed with stage four ovarian cancer in 2003. After a valiant battle with the disease she passed away in 2006. Some of her last thoughts were remembering her time at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. As her family, we would like her name to live on and her strength and talents to be an inspiration to others at the school. She would have wanted someone to have the artistic opportunities that she had while there.
