Fred Bergstone was the horn professor at UNCSA from 1965 until his retirement in 1999. Teaching and nurturing students was a highlight of his career. Many of his students play in orchestras throughout the US and around the globe. Fred’s talent and love for music combined with his sense of humor impacted many students throughout the years. Fred did not want financial stress to prevent students from enrolling in UNCSA. He recognized the need to offer support for students to achieve their potential for creativity and excellence. The Bergstone Horn Scholarship is established to help fulfill Fred’s dream for emerging horn students to be able to attend UNCSA. One of Fred’s greatest satisfactions was seeing his students develop a deep connection with and love for music.
