Dan Klock spent over 40 years as a Financial Aid Administrator at various colleges, universities, and proprietary schools, dedicating his professional life to helping students pursue their academic/career aspirations. He spent the last 16 years of his career as a member of the Policy Division at the U.S. Department of Education, Federal Student Aid in Washington, D.C.

Gayle Klock, known by her family and friends as Ginger, spent 25 years of her career as a Financial Aid Administrator at various colleges and universities before joining the U.S. Department of Education, Federal Student Loan Agency, in Washington, D.C. Before going to Washington, Ginger held the position of Director of Financial Aid at North Carolina School of the Arts. There, she helped students who were pursuing their dreams in various artistic fields, such as dance, music, filmmaking, drama, and design and production. Being able to see this world of artistic endeavor from behind the scenes was very exciting and rewarding, and Ginger became most enthralled by the world of Design and Production, especially Costume and Scenic Design. Her first work-study student at UNCSA was a D & P costume design student, and she and her husband, Dan, became friends with this student and followed his career to New York and around the world as he became an award-winning costume designer. As a result of this nearly 40-year friendship, Dan and Ginger wish to assure the continued progress of students in D & P and, therefore, desire to set up a scholarship to assist students who demonstrate great talent, character, and professional promise.

Throughout their careers in financial aid, whether they were serving a small number of students or eventually over 20 million students each year on a national basis, they had numerous opportunities to listen to and speak with students and family members about the unique financial and family situations that student encounter either as entering students or during the continuation of their educational pursuits. Often, it took a third-party who could assist the student/family to navigate the situation and explore options and fiscal resources to bring the required elements together for the student to determine an appropriate solution that would allow them to continue their program of study.

It is their sincere desire that the Daniel G. and Gayle E. Klock Scholarship Fund will empower UNCSA Design and Production faculty, intimately aware of these students’ needs, with a critical tool to help attract and retain UNSCA students and ultimately achieve academic success.
