Christine Turbitt Endowed Scholarship for Costume Technology and Costume Design

A merit-based scholarship benefitting the students of UNCSA’s School of Design and Production, with an greater preference give to graduate students studying Costume Tecnhology.

Faculty Emeritus Christine R. Turbitt taught in the UNCSA School of Design and Production Costume Design and Costume Technology shops from 1974-2014. During her tenure on campus, Christine created the Costume Design MFA and BFA and Costume Technology MFA and BFA programs. She was equally talented and enjoyed a rich career in both Design and Tech. Christine worked in Drama, Opera, and Film. Christine served as an Assistant Dean in the School of Design and Production and was the driving force behind building the Design and Production Costume and Wig and Makeup Facility. D&P needed to hire two faculty to fill her shoes when she retired. In addition, she had a foothold in the fine art community as an active member in ceramics at Sawtooth Center for Visual Arts. Her pottery, named “Cheap Therapy,” graces many households near and far. In her time here, she was known as a driving force with a soft center for student well-being. It is only fitting she would create a scholarship to celebrate and ease the path for students in the two programs she started.
